Etsy fee calculator
Free, no sign-up, runs in your browser.
Etsy charges three things that are easy to confuse: a listing fee per item, a transaction fee on the sale, and a separate payment processing fee. The last two are both percentages and are often quoted as one, which understates the real cost by roughly half.
What {platform} charges
| Marketplace commission | 6.5% |
|---|---|
| Per-order fee | $0.20 |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 |
| Monthly subscription | None |
The same product at three prices
One product — $29.99 list, bought for $8.00, $1.50 inbound, $0.50 other costs — priced at three points, because the fee rate you actually pay depends on the price.
| Price | Fees | Fee rate | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $1.88 | 12.5% | $3.12 | 20.8% |
| $29.99 | $3.30 | 11% | $16.69 | 55.7% |
| $75.00 | $7.58 | 10.1% | $57.42 | 76.6% |
Notice the fee rate falls as the price rises. That is the fixed component — a per-order charge or an amortised subscription — spreading over a bigger sale. It is why a channel that looks expensive on a cheap item can be the cheapest on an expensive one.
How it compares
On this product at this price it places 5 of 9. WooCommerce (own store) leaves $2.13 more per unit. That gap is only part of the story: a marketplace brings traffic your own store has to pay for, so budget the advertising that replaces it before switching.
What to watch
The transaction fee applies to shipping and gift wrap as well as the item. Sellers who raise postage to keep the item price attractive pay the fee on that too.
Questions
What percentage does Etsy take?
A 6.5% transaction fee plus payment processing of about 3% and a fixed amount per order. On our $29.99 example that totals $3.30, or roughly 11% — noticeably more than the 6.5% headline.
Does Etsy charge on shipping?
Yes, the transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge. Enter what you charge the buyer in the shipping field and the calculator applies the fee correctly.
What about the listing fee?
It is a small fixed charge per listing, renewed when an item sells. Add it under “other costs” if you want it in the per-unit figure; it matters most on low-priced items that take several renewals to sell.
